The Art Of Drawing And Being
"It's never too late to create again."
Play. Experiment. Express.
Who am I? Where am I? What is happening to me?
I am Freedom in the Infinite.
Without form.
Without a frame.
A collective sensation.
Love.
I want to grow. To experience.
And that is where my adventure begins - my first encounter, my new home: my mother's womb.
I am a blank canvas, silence, and curiosity. I am breath. Connected to the world through her - her experiences, sensations, eyes. Breath.
The blank canvas begins to fill with colors - all kinds. Something is happening, something is emerging. We are creating it - my mother and I, and everyone and everything I hear through the protective filter.
There, where I am taking shape - in that first safe space, full of deep collective wisdom: my mother's womb.
I'm ready. I want to see the world outside.
I die to be born - through chaos, the unknown, birth pains, through love.
Through letting go of what gave me protection and a chance to Be, to grow... but no longer serves me.
The umbilical cord is cut. I am alive and I am breathing.
I express my first moments in this new world. I feel. I experience.
I come into it carrying something true and valuable, to offer it to the world.
And through it, to grow, to return changed and enriched to Infinity.
In those first moments, I carry everything: purity, breath, curiosity, connection, and infinite love.
***
What is happening to me?
I create and I am creation.
I am spontaneity. Expression. Pure, aggressive energy. Joy.
Emotions flow from me freely - in movements that turn into dance.
Into sounds that become a song.
Into experiences I draw into images.
I can do anything. And everything is possible - in me, with me, for me. I look at you with eyes full of love and simply rejoice that you exist.
That you are there-with me, for me, for yourself.
But there is something I feel deeply:
You have forgotten...
***
You have forgotten everything. Where you came from. Who you were. What you carry inside.
What you want to unfold. To give. To receive.
Others try to tell you, but they have forgotten too. They seek themselves through you. And they are lost as well.
But you start to believe them, to see through their eyes... and slowly, you lose yourself.
Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing? What is the point of living?
A small child inside you wants to tell you. To show you.
But you no longer hear it. You silence that voice to fit into the world outside.
It remains abandoned.
You are alone.
Abandoned by your own self.
***
And so the wandering begins.
You feel lost. Wounded.
Pain. Sadness. Stagnation. Anger. Fear.
You can’t breathe. You can’t feel. You can’t hear. You can’t see.
Who am I? Where am I? What happened to me?
You're in the world, yet isolated. Empty.
The joy of those first moments is gone. You seek again the spark, the charge, the inspiration.
But you grasp it fleetingly - through things that rob you even more.
You don't feel yourself. You don’t feel your body.
You're fragmented–scattered. Each part speaks on its own. Each pulls toward itself.
Some parts scream - but you push them deeper, into the dark.
Into the world of the Other. Unable to understand, recognize or experience them.
It is no longer joyful. You can't play.
You've forgotten how. You've forgotten with what.
And above all – with whom.
***
And yet...
Something within you pushes.
Longing. Faith.
It wants to lead you. Not to give up.
To find your way back home.
***
I am there - on the Path.
The same path. At my own pace.
It is familiar to me.
I will be glad to walk with you.
To be your support. Your companion.
To light your lantern in the dark, when it fades.
To feel that you are not walking alone.
That you are not just scattered, lost parts. That you are so much more.
To welcome the dawn of hope.
That there is something new. Something different. That after the night comes the day.
A new opportunity. A new choice. Different.
To discover meaning. The rainbow's colors - through the mist. The flowers, through the frost.
To reflect you.
To find again that innocent smile, full of joy and laughter.
To reconnect with your body. To accept yourself.
To tame fear and anger.
To give them expression. To unfold your potential.
To hear that child again.
And let it recharge you - with love, with curiosity, with meaning.
I am there, on the Path.
The sign reads:
"It is never too late to create again."
Who is this process for?
Creative Drawing Studies is suitable for seekers of all ages. You don’t need to be an “artist”. You don’t need to be "ready."
It is enough to feel that you want to.
Recommended age: 13 and above.
You are not just someone who wants "to learn how to draw."
You are someone who wants to return to yourself.
This Path is for you if:
— you feel blocked, lost, stuck
— you are a seeker, sensitive, vulnerable
— you think you "can’t," but deep inside, feel a longing
— you need something that is just for you – quiet, deep, sincere
— you want to reclaim your voice, joy, color, meaning, and inspiration
— you feel something is missing, but you don't yet know what
— you want to start over
Come meet me, if:
— you are not just looking for a skill, but for yourself
— you want to be with yourself, without running away
— you need to reconnect with yourself, but don’t know where to start
— you’re not looking for shallow "spiritual" experiences, but something real and human
— you want to learn, but without pressure and competition
— you long to feel alive, inspired, free, strong
— you want to reclaim your creative energy, confidence, and play
***
This is for those who…
…want to create but don’t know where to begin.
…or have begun but lost their voice.
For those who feel weighed down, heavy, and drained.
Who need a breath of air.
***
You don’t need to be skilled.
You don’t need to know.
It is enough to want.
To come as you are.
I will be here. With you.
What will we do here?
Here, we will experience. Truly.
We will go through a complete academic curriculum:
— from line, shape, and perspective
— through light and shadow, composition, the human figure
— all the way to free interpretation, gesture, expressive drawing, and imagination.
You will learn to draw with depth and stability.
But as you learn this, you will also learn about yourself.
Technical knowledge is the structure.
The inner process is the life within it.
These lessons are both discipline and flight.
The hand learns. And the soul is set free.
The Healing Power of the Creative Process
The creative process has been used as a form of healing since the earliest of times.
In the rituals of prehistoric cultures, the symbolism of cave paintings, the dances, masks, and music of ancient societies, creation has been a path toward understanding, solace, and connection with oneself and with something greater.
Long before modern psychology began exploring the impact of symbols and imagination, people used art to make sense of the world, to connect with their experiences, and to find a way through pain, chaos, and change.
Today, psychotherapeutic science confirms what the ancients already knew - that creation has power.
Through image, color, form, and gesture, we can express what cannot be spoken. A potential for connection, awareness, and transformation.
That art is not merely a skill - it is a way to return to oneself.
Nonverbal language, visual thinking, and the creative process are our innate abilities to organize feelings, thoughts, and perceptions about the world around us. They precede everything we do - from planning our day to dreaming at night.
This visual language of creation is a lesser-known form of communication and, therefore, much less controllable.
Children often lack a developed vocabulary to describe their feelings and experiences, yet they feel completely at ease and natural when communicating through the language of creativity.
Research shows that traumatic experiences are often encoded in the mind through images.
That’s why art can be a window into memories, feelings, or questions we cannot express with words.
Drawing, modeling, writing, working with lines and colors - all of these can become processes of self-reflection, grounding, reconnecting with the body, and emotional release.
They help us understand who we are and enrich our lives through self-expression.
They can assist in solving problems, expressing and releasing strong or troubling emotions, as well as in recovering from traumatic loss or experiences that may manifest as physical symptoms.
They enhance our sense of well-being and increase the potential for personal change and growth.
This text is not about art therapy or Gestalt therapy in their professional sense -
but about the living, accessible, human opportunity to express ourselves in ways that words sometimes cannot.
The creative process engages the senses, the imagination, and the unconscious.
It is precisely through images that we can gain deeper insight into our states of being, recognize hidden emotions, give them shape, and in doing so, release them.
Many people spontaneously begin to draw, scribble, make collages, or take photographs - even without “training” - and feel relief, reduced stress, inner clarity, or fresh inspiration.
As children, we first learn through the senses.
This is a process in which we can express ourselves completely authentically, spontaneously, and imaginatively.
It is communication through symbols - an intensely personal process.
What I experience while creating or observing is entirely different from what you experience.
It’s important to emphasize that one does not need “talent” or formal artistic education to benefit from this process.
Research shows that the very act of creating, engaging, participating, and practicing is what matters.
The movement of the hand, the choice of form, and the interaction with materials - all of this brings benefits such as reduced stress, increased feelings of connection, and self-confidence.
As children, this process was natural for each of us, but as adults, we often forget this and stop seeing ourselves as creative beings.
We may perceive art only as entertainment or as objects displayed in museums.
And yet, we often rediscover by chance how enriching this process can be.
A process that brings us back to our natural, intuitive creative forces.
Art may be difficult to define, but it enriches our experience in more ways than we realize.
Many of us have lost touch with this living process.
Creativity is action-oriented - an active participation of the creator, who experiences everything through movement and making.
It has no age limit and is accessible to everyone.
There is a deep connection between creation, healing, and wholeness.
True healing arises from the act of creating itself.
The Impact of Art on Multiple Levels
Art engages the human experience holistically - emotionally, mentally, and physiologically. Research and practice show that the creative process can:
- Reduce physiological symptoms of stress, such as elevated heart rate and shallow breathing
- Offer a symbolic outlet for expressing inner conflicts and complex emotions
- Support emotional healing and psychological transformation
- Foster creativity, mental flexibility, and inner resilience
- Cultivate a sense of wholeness, belonging, and authentic self-expression
Benefits of the Creative Process
Engaging in art awakens imagination, activates the senses and the unconscious, and opens a safe inner space for care, reflection, and emotional connection. It helps to:
- Lower stress and enhance emotional self-regulation
- Support recovery from trauma, grief, or repressed emotions
- Stimulate self-reflection and foster greater internal clarity
- Build self-confidence, self-worth, and personal agency
- Strengthen the connection between body, emotions, and inner world
- Encourage spontaneity, playfulness, and freedom
- Improve focus and decision-making abilities
- Provide a meaningful experience of internal coherence and personal insight
- Facilitate connection with others, empathy, and emotional resonance
- Offer grounding and emotional relief during times of anxiety, confusion, or exhaustion
While on the surface it may seem like we are “just drawing,” in reality, we are experiencing an inner encounter with the imagination, the memories, the shadows, and the light within us.
Many therapeutic approaches use image as a bridge between the conscious and unconscious - to illuminate unclear themes, ease anxiety, and create meaning where none exists.
Through creativity, self-esteem is enhanced, the ability to take risks and experiment is encouraged, and we are invited to step beyond the familiar.
To create something with your own hands and realize that you made it is a powerful experience with immense healing potential.
The creative process touches many different parts of us. It touches our true potential.
It is often said that when our basic needs - food, shelter, safety - are met, the impulse for self-expression arises.
But sometimes it is self-expression itself that opens the path to fulfilling those needs.
Art touches both the spirit and the soul.
While family, work, and daily routines give us structure, creativity brings us back to ourselves.
It helps us find meaning in a world full of boredom, dysfunctional relationships, addictions, and loss of direction.
In this sense, it is a path toward overcoming existential loneliness and soul loss.
To find new meaning. To come home to ourselves.
The creative process helps us reach what we truly believe in.
To touch the root of our pain or joy.
The antidote to depression is expression.
We cannot change what we were born with.
But we can change how we use what we’ve been given.
To create in the presence of the Other is another important aspect of the healing power of creativity.
It stimulates new ideas, connections, exchange, and communication.
Creativity is a powerful way to find and get to know yourself.
And a potent form of healing.
Even the simplest gesture of creation - a line, a color - can be an act of care toward oneself.
To say to yourself: “I am here. And this is me.”
Note:
This text is inspired by my personal, long-standing journey through creativity and Gestalt therapy, my training in Gestalt and Gestalt Play Therapy, as well as by contemporary theoretical sources - including the works of Cathy Malchiodi, Carl Jung, Rollo May, James Hillman, and Abraham Maslow - along with observations, lived experiences, and practices in the field of conscious creativity and visual thinking.
The Voice of Art
Ilona – music, piano & voice
Music and playing give me moments of freedom.
I can be completely honest, without self-censorship.
In life, you always have to adjust to others.
***
Snezhina – drawing & color
For me, drawing became an inspiration – a way to express myself.
It allowed me to be curious about the world in a new way and – last but not least – it became a refuge from my difficult childhood and the problems at home.
Life showed me it’s not a fairytale. I lost my mother and had to grow up very quickly. I did whatever work I could to earn money, and that pulled me away from drawing and everything it used to give me.
It tore me from my dreams, and the only thing I could think about was that I had to be strong and keep going.
Gradually, everything I had been carrying inside started to feel far too heavy. I reached a point where I couldn’t go on the same way anymore – something inside me was insisting on change. I chose myself.
I chose to take care of my emotions and to look back at my past, with the support of Gestalt therapy.
And just like that, through my path in personal therapy, I found an anchor in drawing again. At first, just to find some calm in my head, or to express what I was feeling.
I remembered how much I love colors, different techniques, and the silence that painting brings me.
I draw when I’m down. I draw when I’m happy.
Art once again became my refuge. I immerse myself in the process of building the idea, in choosing the colors, and it gives me a sense of safety, brings me back a sense of control, even when everything else is a complete mess.
Drawing is a form of self-support that I always give myself when things feel heavy.
It’s what brings me back to the present moment.
Through my artwork, I manage to reconnect with myself and accept myself more easily, just the way I am.

Martin – guitar & voice
Playing the guitar and singing go hand in hand for me. Often, the feeling is soul-lifting.
When I’m preparing for a performance, there’s an element of effort and monotony, but I try not to lose the sense of play.
Music pleases me and is a balm for the soul.
There have been times when I turned to it while under the influence of negative emotions, and it helped me express them.
I’ve always loved singing along to songs. I think I inherited my sense of rhythm from my father – he’s a drummer, even though his profession is lighting technician.
***
Katerina – theater & acting
For me, the connection with the stage and acting is not abstract. It is alive, lived through, sometimes painful, but always honest.
As an actress and a psychologist, I want to start from the place where the stage and the inner world meet.
To play someone else, to imagine yourself in their shoes – whether it’s on a professional stage or in another setting – has always been a challenge for me, one that carries responsibility, courage, and risk.
Responsibility – because you have to be honest with yourself and with the people who are part of this “game.” To step into someone’s life with respect and open senses, without judgment. To try and see the world through someone else's eyes, down to the smallest detail.
Courage – to temporarily step away from yourself, to make space within you for someone else. To feel someone else’s emotions with your body and psyche, to give them a home, even if only for a while.
Risk – because sometimes the experience becomes so real it floods you like a wave, one that can spin you around for a long time before you can come up for air. Stepping into someone’s skin requires conscious preparation, before and after. Otherwise, it’s like jumping into a stormy sea with no life vest and no one waiting on the shore.
The stage has always been a place where I face my fears. I don’t do it out of vanity, not because I want to be watched – quite the opposite. For me, being visible is a challenge. I’m used to shrinking, to not taking up much space. And the stage demands the opposite – presence.
When I think about my characters, I connect with their emotions. I search for their motivations. I discover new lives. Something from these imaginary people becomes mine – I give them all of myself. Sometimes it heals me. Other times, it wounds me. It’s a dangerous territory.
I love the connection with my fellow actors and with the audience, especially when that synchronized living in the present moment happens. That’s when the magic is felt. You’re not thinking. It just flows through you. It doesn’t happen every time – and that’s exactly where its power lies.
I’m learning not to expect the same effect every time. Sometimes one thing happens, other times – something entirely different, even though you’re supposedly performing the same thing.
The stage is not repetition. It’s a living organism.
When you’re there, everything speeds up – your brain ticks faster, you see, hear, and feel differently. More. More clearly. If you’re not afraid.
If you are afraid, you get caught in others’ judgments, and you can lose yourself in them.

Krasimir – Music, Theatre, and Cinema
Art is the need to say something that would otherwise feel shameful.
Something that strips you completely bare. And shows you, without pretending.
That gives me a sense of freedom and strength like nothing else can.
When I feel blocked, I always return to art. In some way – any way.
I love to draw. But I don’t like being taught.
I do it for the freedom, not for the final result.
Music gives me less freedom because of the feeling of “professionalism.”
That limits me.
The best kind of art is a combination of freedom and uncompromising professionalism.
To master your voice so well that you can dance with it.
It’s still hard for me. But when the time comes, I’ll surrender to that freedom.
Right now, it’s like expensive chocolate in my aunt’s drawer.

Petya A. – writing & imagination
I have a strong inner voice. Not just one.
Connected to many authorities - some long gone, others still influencing me.
I have a habit of imagining people. Events. Fantasizing about what happens to them.
That makes me different. And sometimes - lonely.
But under pressure, I realized - that’s my means of expression.
At my entrance exams at the National Academy of Theatrical and Film Art, I felt it. But back then, I was voicing other people’s thoughts. That’s no longer enough.
I love writing down my thoughts. Starting stories. Imagining lives.
Being part of imagined worlds where I’m not alone.
Writing is my comfort. My healing. My play.
A hope for connection. A burst of energy.
A space where I can be everything—and everyone.
Boryana – drawing & new beginnings
“A First Companion on the Journey”
What do drawing lessons give me?
Stepping out of my comfort zone
All my life I believed I couldn’t draw.
But I learned it’s a skill, not a gift.
Every time I have a lesson, I overcome my resistance. And take one step forward.
Creativity
I reconnect with my creative core. I follow it.
My projects evolve in their own way.
I find joy, meaning, and strength in that.
A new skill - new possibilities
I dream of making a living from the things I love.
Drawing is one of them.
Inspiration from the teacher
I chose a teacher who inspires me with her art and the strength with which she creates it.
Sometimes, the teacher becomes a friend.
Then, the lessons become encounters - deep, human, shared.
